About Marie Kerwin
Marie Kerwin is the mother of James and Tom Kerwin. James was born profoundly deaf and is now (as an adult) well respected within the hearing and deaf communities alike. He has exceptional English literacy skills, Auslan and ASL language skills, teaching experience and currently works for NABS helping families of newly diagnosed children and the deaf community at large.
Marie learned sign language because of her sons hearing loss. Recognising the importance of this language, and the lack of Auslan (Australian Sign Language) resources for children and parents in Australia, Marie has dedicated herself to helping rectify this situation.
Maries first sign language venture was 'Something To Sign About', which continues to be Australia's most popular Auslan DVD/Video for children. Marie has written 3 childrens picture books (of which 2 are in post production). Her first story, Dusty Devil, was Australias first ever Auslan Picture book and was nominated for childrens picture book of the year. A fabulous achievement.
Marie currently helps out at her local school, within their Auslan program, and is continuing to write picture books and develop a video image bank for Bilby Publishing with her son James.
Together, James and Marie have just finished producing 'A Time To Sign', a fantastic DVD starter course in Auslan that is sure to be just as popular as her other projects.

| We purchased this DVD to help our young daughter learn to sign so she could communicate with us better before she could talk. This has been a really useful dvd - I highly recommend it to any new parent. |

The Dusty Devil Australia's First Picture Book With Auslan Images
This delightful story, written by Marie Kerwin, about a mischievous whirlwind on Mr Browns farm. Each page contains the english text
and Auslan signs.
Perfect for hearing and Deaf children and parents who are learning sign language!
The Auslan images within this book have been nationally certified by the ACARA panel of experts, who also helped prepare the introductory page,
that includes state variation signs (3 images) and an explaination as to how signs were selected and the fact that the images appear above the
English words to help novice signers learn signs. All attempts were made by the author to write the story in such a way that the images would
appear in Auslan grammer order, however this is sometimes very difficult to achieve, while maintaining sense in English as well.
