Advanced Edition
With this the last poster in the series we not only introduce more complex emotions, like conscience, depression and
concern, but also explore why the signs are the way they are.
There is a special section of the poster that divides emotions into broad signing groups :
Emotions involving the head, like confuse and concern. The poster explains that the signs for these types of emotions are derived from the sign for think or thought, and thus are signed
near the temple, or starting at that point.
Those based on other signs. For example ‘ill’ is derived from ‘bad’ and uses the ‘bad hand shape’, as does ‘quarrel’
Signs based on actions. For example cry, where the sign enacts the action of crying.
Emotions of the heart. These are feelings that are colloquially thought of as being from the heart, like love, or surprise (made my heart stop). The poster explains that these are all
signed near the chest and are derived from the spread hand shape and location n for the sign ‘to feel’.
The poster provides examples for each category and explains the concept to the reader in a clear, easy to understand manner.
Signs included : Lucky, Unlucky, Hopeful, Secretive,
Confused, Conscience, Curious, Concern, Depressed, Quarrel, Pain (physical). Plus signs with explanation text: Think, Surprise, Bad, Cry.
