Auslan (Australian Sign Language) Children's Picture Dictionaries
We have now released 2 Volumes of these beautiful dictionaries, with more in development for realease later on this year.
These special dictionaries have been designed to be used by pre-reading or low literacy children and those sudying Auslan
(Australian Sign Language) as their LOTE subject at Primary school. They have also proven very popular for parents and
teachers, as a quick refernce guide, under topics.
You will find that topics covered in Volume 1 supplement the Auslan LOTE curriculum available at
www.auslan.net, for Stage 1 (grade 1 and 2) students. Volumes 2 and 3 will support stage
2 and 3 (grade 3, 4, 5 and 6) students.
Volume 1 was designed to require NO READING SKILLS. Descriptions of how to do the signs were not included, so as to make the dictionary easy for pre-reading children to navigate and understand.
Volume 2 does include descriptions and seeks to extend children further in their understanding of the Auslan language. Volume three will take this one step further and include more theory and
information within the dictionary forward, regarding handshapes and an introduction to Auslan grammer.
The aim of the series is to gently guide children through vocablory building to sentance development and eventually structured conversation, with each volume increasing in complexity.
