ACARA Welcomes Retaillers
<
Under trade practices legislation it is important for retaillers to know about the products they sell so that they do not mis-represent these products.
There are many types of sign language used around the world. Auslan (Australian Sign Language) has evolved along with the many influences on Australian culture. Origionally based on BSL (British Sign Language), it has changed with Irish immigration and more recently American cultural influences. Dielects have also formed with the different migrant populations and influences. Thus it is important (and complicated) to know which sign language a product is based around.
That's where ACARA is here to help. We have established a panel of experts made up of native signers, translators and teachers from around Australia, who are known experts in the field of sign language. ACARA has a comprehensive review process in which the panel decides if a submitted product is coherant auslan.
These product reviews are now available in a database through the website www.acara.org.au along with brief reviews of products not submitted for review. This database holds over 200 sign language products with cover pictures, ISBN and publisher details so you can quickly refer to our database and make sure that your staff and customers are correctly informed.
This is a paid service, for only $25 per year.
