NEWS - Sign Language Products
After only 6 weeks of operation, one thing became very clear, with the ever growing internet market place importing product descriptions
direct from international databases, 1000's of new foreign sign language based products have entered the Australian market place. Most
with generic based descriptions, such as "sign language", that provide Australian's little to no idea which sign language they are based in.
To help clarify the matter the ACARA team has already spent over 150 hours establishing a database of Sign Language products, including cover photo, description, ISBN and other
available identifiers. Every product within the database will be:
- First reviewed and classified as either NOT AUSTRALIAN SIGN OR Non-Validated Auslan (Australian sign Language).
- Secondly, "Non-Validated Auslan" products will be reviewed and accredited by our accreditation panel,
for their integrity to Auslan, across all states and territories of Australia
- Products that meet the stringent testing of our accreditation panel will be declared "Validated-AUSLAN products".
All ACARA members have access to this database, through their 'Member Login', where they can read Accreditation panel reports, other members
comments/reviews and post their own comments/review.
This database will be used to help educate the retail sector and help member associations assist their customers and clients select appropriate resources.
