Become a MEMBER of ACARA
|
ACARA defines a 'Signing Person' as being any person who either uses sign language as their primary means of communication, as a second language, or who use sign language to communicate with an associated person on a regular basis for personal or professional purposes.

ACARA accepts memberships from the public.
There are four levels of membership available
- Individual Membership
An Individual Member may be any person who qualifies as a ‘Signing Person’ (definition above).
Annual Membership fee : $25 ($15 pensioner concession)
- Affiliated Association Membership
Affiliated Associations are defined as being :
- Any organization which has a vested interest in supporting their members and/or individuals who use AUSLAN as their main or second language.
- Any organization which provides a service to those individuals or organizations who use AUSLAN communication.
- Any organization which is a relevant service provider
Annual Membership fee : $350 (applications for discount or payment in-kind are encouraged)
- Industry Membership
Industry Membership is only available to those individuals, organisations, associations or companies who are
deemed to be commercially involved in the supply of either Sign Language Resources or Services in Australia.
Examples of industry members would include Authors and Publishers of Auslan Resources, who wish to have
products certified
Industry members receive first priority on Resource and Service Accreditation and some discounts on accreditation may apply.
Annual Membership fee : $500 (applications for discount or payment in-kind may be accepted)
- Honary Lifetime Membership
Honary Membership does not incur any membership fee; and may be granted, via two third majority vote of
the Board of Directors, to any individual or organisation deemed to have contributed greatly to
ACARA’s Aims and Objectives
